Wire review

Seamless syncing between devices, seamless transition between text and HD voice, and an attractive design make Swiss-engineered Wire stand out among Android chat platforms. Like other apps, Wire shares photos, links, and music, but it's not like most other free chat apps in design or execution. Clean, elegant, and modern, Wire is the antithesis of the abundant chat apps with too-cute cartoon mascots, frilly borders, and heart decals.

Pros

Easy to use: Pull down to start conversations; pull up to create groups. Invites are quick and easy to accept at the receiving end.

Secure: Shared contacts are never shared with third parties. You don't need to share contacts to start conversations and groups, though: Just send an Invite. Conversations and activity on Wire are protected by EU privacy laws.

Swiss engineered: Wire's layout and functionality reflect the precision and beauty that Swiss industry has labored to cultivate across the board.

Battery-friendly: Wire is engineered for minimal battery drain in mobile devices.

Cons

No Windows: Wire works on Android, iOS, and OS X -- but not Windows. A browser-based version is promised, but the lack of a Windows interface reduces Wire's appeal.

Bottom Line

Wire's fresh, modern look and precise feel make messaging a pleasure instead of just an activity. If you prefer style and efficiency over hearts and bunnies, try Wire.
