More comic goodness

With superhero movies such as the recent "Avengers: Age of Ultron" laying waste to the box office seemingly every month, it's a good time to be a comic book fan. But there's a world of illustrated storytelling beyond the likes of Batman, and that's why we asked authors of indie comics to pitch us their colourful creations -- in just 12 seconds.

With comics and their silver-screen counterparts becoming an ever-bigger part of our culture, here's a chance to see the smaller-scale creativity that's fueling the medium's vibrant independent scene. Often self-publishing, these do-it-yourself comic enthusiasts are creating weird and wacky stories that are often frighteningly imaginative, but all-too-easily overlooked.

Hit play on the video above to check it out. From diesel-punk super-soldiers to amiable fruit, by way of a crime-fighting moon, we're sure you'll agree there's a wealth of creativity on show here that proves exactly how diverse the sequential arts can be. And if you see something you like, don't forget to Google it.

The weird and wonderful world of London Comic Con (pictures)

Welcome to MCM London Comic Con, an annual celebration of everything geek culture. Visitors are welcomed by these imposing looking police officers. We don't think they're real cops, but we can't be sure.

Artists provided these imaginative, and creepy, Batman cowls.

Here's the man himself, posing in front of his famous automobile.

A tiny Master Chief waves hello.

Swords. And axes. Indeed, quite a lot of weaponry is on sale here.

This man is selling strap-on tails! We must have missed this one on Kickstarter.

It's the Ice King from "Adventure Time".

Mountains of Pocky on sale -- all the colours of the rainbow.

Can you afford not to buy a plush Grumpy Cat?

There's plenty of cosplay here, and plenty of cosplay supplies. This row of wigs should satisfy anyone looking for something colourful to wear to next year's show.

Geek culture doesn't have to be low-brow -- class up your living room with these nerdy posters.

Your intrepid reporter, here for scale, standing beside an alien from Fox's "Falling Skies."

This area is reserved for the playing of board games.

The British Origami Society is represented.

Here's a paper TARDIS, from Doctor Who, amid other folded treasures.

This surprisingly massive Little Pony is certainly looking sassy.

Here's the "cute" aisle, featuring plenty of fluffy things, and animals with massive eyes.

Comics, movies and TV aren't the only mediums getting in on the action -- Nintendo is here showing off its gaming goods.

Elsa from "Frozen" queues up to get a go on "Smash Bros Wii U".

Need a mask? This is your one-stop shop for eerie masks. How many do you recognise?

Home-made geeky goods on sale. Poor Groot, we hardly knew ye.

A moment of calm amid the nerdy action, as we indulge in a hug with this huge inflatable Baymax, recognisable from Disney's "Big Hero 6".

Some excellent Bane cosplay going on here. Don't worry readers, we didn't divulge Batman's location.

"When Gotham is in ashes, you have my permission to die," Bane seems to say. With his eyes.

It wouldn't be a comic convention without a top-quality Stormtrooper stomping around.

Even more plush animals.

"Attack on Titan" fans will recognise this Colossal Titan -- athough this one isn't so colossal.

Heaven only knows how many commuters were filled with terror when this Battlefield cosplay group took the train to the convention centre.

Thor stalks the concourse, looking moody.

We didn't get a chance to find out if this Marty McFly was touting a working hoverboard.

Hats off to the Pokémon fan who's gone full Meowth.

Fans queue to get their photo taken in this 360 photo-space. Surrounded by cameras, it eventually spits out a Matrix-style short video giving a spinning look at the subject. The perfect memento if you've spent ages working on a costume.

Cult hit Farming Simulator didn't seem to have too big a queue. We did have fun in the demo though, until our tractor rolled over.

Similarly alarming for non-convention-attendees is this Umbrella Corporation guard, from the Resident Evil universe.

Plenty of attention to detail in this Assassin's Creed outfit.

Power Rangers, still going strong.

Alright, we admit it. We wish we were Power Rangers. Are you happy now?

Deadpool embraces. London's Comic Con is a great place for like-minded pop culture fans to meet up.

Retro games still on sale.

How many of these old-school controllers can you identify?

This is the Comics Village, where authors of indie comics get to sell and show off their latest works.
