Twitter’s awesome Periscope app can make anyone into a TV news broadcaster

Anyone who’s ever wanted to be a TV news broadcaster can fulfill their dreams with an awesome new iPhone app from Twitter. Called Periscope, the new app lets you stream live video broadcasts over your iPhone so people can watch what you’re watching in real time.

FROM EARLIER: You’ll never guess whose job it is to make sure Apple’s streaming music service doesn’t suck

This app is particularly useful since it’s integrated with Twitter, which is already a go-to platform for delivering live news as it happens. Sharing your broadcasts over Twitter is as easy as clicking a small bird icon on the screen, which will send out a link to your live broadcast right to your Twitter feed.

You can also archive your broadcasts and make them available for anyone to rewatch for up to 24 hours. We’re sure Periscope will add more time to its current archive limit as the app gets more popular and as Twitter increases the amount of video data it can keep stored at a given time.

The app is now free to download on the iTunes App Store. Twitter says that an Android version of the app is on its way although it doesn’t yet have an estimated release date just yet.
