Tesla Model X pricing revealed: It’s crazy expensive

Tesla this week finally disclosed some pricing information for its highly anticipated Model X. Slated to launch later this month, performance on Tesla’s Model X might only be eclipsed by its insanely high price tag, at least at first.

Late on Tuesday, Tesla started allowing some users who signed up for pre-orders to configure their vehicles online. As it stands now, the configuration is only available for the company’s Model X Signature Series, a limited edition model. The base model Signature Series Model X will set users back $132,000. For consumers who want to truly trick out their Model X and opt for every upgrade option possible — including a Tow Package and Ludicrous Mode — the final sticker price rises to $144,750.

Yep, even the Model X, an SUV!, is getting the Ludicrous Mode treatment, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 3.2 seconds. Otherwise, its 0-60 time is 3.8 seconds, still not too shabby for an SUV.

As far range goes, the Model X can drive about 240 miles between charges.

Aesthetically, and from a design standpoint, the Model X stands out from other SUVs because it features falcon wing doors which open outward and upward. As a result, and for other design considerations, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in recent months that the Model X has been the toughest engineering challenge the company has faced to date.

Looking ahead, more affordable Model X options will become available once Tesla gets a handle on supply and increases its production rate.
