Samsung Gear VR sells out on Amazon, BestBuy.com

Samsung's Gear VR headset is already sold out at Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN).com and BestBuy (NYSE: BBY).com, only a few days after it began shipping.

That comes after Samsung (Korea Stock Exchange: 593-KR) released a 30-second video ad this weekend to showcase the headset. The video demonstrates the everyday uses for the Gear headset, including streaming videos, viewing 360-degree videos and playing immersive games.

The consumer model Samsung Gear VR retails for $99.

The headset works by snapping a Galaxy phone (Note 5, S6, S6 Edge or S6 Edge Plus) onto the back of it.

Samsung isn't the only game in town when it comes to virtual reality. Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has Cardboard, a cheaper VR headset that uses smartphones as a screen, like the Gear. And Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) has the Oculus Rift from its $2 billion acquisition of that company in 2014.
