Next-gen HTC One M9 benchmarks leak – here’s how they compare to the Galaxy S6

HTC is set to unveil its next-generation HTC One M9 flagship smartphone during a big press conference on March 1st, which will take place just ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Expectations are high for the device, which HTC hopes will help speed up the recovery the struggling smartphone maker began late last year.

We have seen plenty of leaks and rumors over the past few weeks, and they have painted quite an impressive picture so far. Now, however, new benchmark test results have been revealed and we can compare them to results from another huge flagship phone set to debut at Mobile World Congress in March: Samsung’s Galaxy S6.

Some tech sites tend to rely a great deal on performance tests when judging smartphones and tablets, but we try to not let numbers on a piece of paper do too much talking. Benchmark tests are a good way to gauge performance under certain conditions, however they don’t convey the user experience at all.

HTC’s new One M9 hasn’t yet been released, of course, so we can’t comment on the user experience for the time being. Benchmark performance tests were just discovered on Primate Labs’ Geekbench 3 website though, so we can at least see how the M9 stacks up against Samsung’s unreleased Galaxy S6, which also recently had its benchmark test results uncovered early.

According to the test results, which were revealed by Techtastic.nl, the HTC One M9 registered a single-core Geekbench 3 score of 1,232 and a multi-core score of 3,587.

How does that stack up to the upcoming Galaxy S6? Samsung’s upcoming new smartphone racked up a single-core score of 1,520 and a multi-core score of 5,478, crushing the M9 in both tests.
