The most bizarre showdown ever: iPhone 6 vs. BlackBerry Classic

Apple’s iPhone 6 and BlackBerry’s new Classic smartphone couldn’t possibly be any more different. The latest iPhone features a design that is mind-bogglingly thin and sleek, and it’s made of premium glass and smooth aluminum. The BlackBerry Classic, on the other hand, touts a clunky design and a throwback plastic keyboard as strengths. Apple’s iPhone is supported by the best mobile software ecosystem in the world. Meanwhile, BlackBerry’s mobile platform continues its struggle to woo developers.

And of course, one month of iPhone 6 sales likely amounts to more units than the BlackBerry Classic will sell in its lifetime.

One handset represents the future of mobile computing and the other conjures up the past, but these two polar opposites were pitted against each other in a recent review.

Perhaps the very fact that these two phones are polar opposites is exactly what makes Ewan Spence’s recent review such an interesting read. Writing at Forbes, Spence pits the two handsets against each other in an effort to determine their key strengths and weaknesses.”If you want to go mythical over it, at one point BlackBerry was the future of mobile computing,” he wrote. “Now Apple’s iPhone is the future. The two manufacturers have seen wildly different levels of success over the last few years. While Apple sells an iPhone to one in every one hundred people in the world, BlackBerry is fighting to retain its niche status and cater for its passionate fans.””Is it really fair to put the two latest handsets side by side and let them duke it out to find a winner?” Spence asked. “Yes it is.”

From design and display to hardware and performance, Spence does a good job of going through most of the key points to see how these two unlikely rivals compare. The main conclusion is a bit obvious, of course, but you might be surprised by a few of the points made in this review.
