In disappointing news for Dancing With the Stars fans hoping for Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s return to the popular ABC show, he will not be making a reappearance any time soon. In a new interview with Glamour, the 35-year-old dancing pro says he’s “definitely not” coming back to the show that made him famous.
“You have to walk away when the time is right, and the time was right,” he says about his exit following his season 18 win with Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis. “I think the change of guard is necessary. Like a plant that in order to improve growth, you have to pull branches. It’s the same thing. Every now and again, everything needs to be refreshed.”
The popular dancer also claims fan favorite Derek Hough is on his way out.
“Me, Cheryl, Karina, the few of us leaving, I think this might be one of the last times we see Derek,” Maksim adds. “We’ve moved on, and the show is still where it is. You have people like Peta and Val, who kind of became faces of the show, and let’s see what happens. I hope the show stays for another 10 years, and we’ll come celebrate it when we’re a lot older.”
But he still remains in touch with several dancers from the show, including his brother Val Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, former partner Meryl Davis and Amy Purdy, who are part of his new live dance spectacle Sway.
Chmerkovskiy is a Ukrainian American Latin Ballroom dance champion, choreographer, and instructor.
In related news, Julianne Hough showed off her amazing body in a sheer, long-sleeved blue-and-white dress at the Dancing With the Stars Season 20 wrap party on Tuesday night, but suffered a major wardrobe malfunction as she was leaving Beso in Hollywood, Calif. The eye-catching dress noticeably shifted, causing a nip slip.
The 26-year-old actress/dancing pro was hand-in-hand with her boyfriend, NHL player Brooks Laich, at the time.
Hough is an American dancer, singer-songwriter, and actress. She is a two-time professional champion of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. The actress-dancer, 26, recently spoke with Yahoo Style about her lifestyle website and opened up about not always feeling totally body-confident.
“I still have not mastered feeling 100 percent confident in my body,” she said in the interview posted Tuesday. “I still have days where I look in the mirror and say, ‘Thanks, Grandma, for giving me my thighs!’ ”
