TAIPEI -- Checking in at 7.7 kilograms and 70 centimeters long is the second version of the TTRobotix's Seawolf submarine, a motorised remote control submarine that can dive down to a depth of 8 meters. The key difference between the first and second version is the inclusion of a mount where you can install a GoPro Hero3 or Hero4 action camera to film your underwater adventure.
While the first version of the Seawolf is already available, the GoPro-enabled model will only be launching in August and will come in two flavors -- one for fresh water and one for sea. This remote control toy won't be cheap -- TTRobotix says it will cost $999 (£653, AU$1,285).
The submarine has a built-in pump for the ballast tank and has a tri-fin vertical stabilizer to control its movement underwater. For propulsion, the Seawolf is equipped with a brass five-blade propeller and is capable of speeds of up to 3.5 kilometers per hour. The built-in 5,000 milli-ampere hour battery will last for 50 minutes.
Before you take this out to the open sea to film your own Jacques Cousteau documentary though, you may want to make sure the Seawolf you have is the one designed for the sea -- since the freshwater version uses FM radio which can't penetrate the denser salt water. The sea version also comes with a signal buoy that serves as a relay for your remote control via a cable.
