Google Maps for iPhone was just updated – here are 5 big changes

Google certainly had a big day on Tuesday, having unveiled a new logo along with some other updates. Beyond its new logo though, the company also updated a few of its most popular apps, including Google Maps for the iPhone and iPad.

Hundreds of millions of iOS users enjoy Google Maps on their iOS devices despite the availability of Apple’s own mapping solution, so updates to the Google Maps app are generally a pretty big deal. Let’s take a look at everything Google added in this most recent update.

In addition to the standard “bug fixes” line item, Google’s change log for Google Maps includes the following five updates:

  • See where you’re going before you leave with a Street View thumbnail on the map (for address search or tap-and-hold on map)

  • View the custom maps you created using Google My Maps

  • Easily share your opinion about places you’ve been with an improved review-writing flow

  • New Google Maps logo

  • Added support for six new languages

The six new languages Google added weren’t detailed in the change log, but here’s a list of all languages that are currently supported by the iOS version of Google Maps: English, Arabic, Bokmål, Norwegian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.
