Galaxy Note 5 release set for August, as Samsung scrambles
A new report from South Korea says that Samsung has indeed moved forward the Galaxy Note 5 announcement and launch dates on account of the iPhone 6s threat. The company wants to have the fifth-generation phablet and the supersized Galaxy S6 edge Plus handset in stores before Apple launches the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.

According to industry sources who have talked to Business Korea, Samsung will hold an event in New York on August 13th to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge Plus.
Before this, Samsung had always announced its Galaxy Note models at events in early September scheduled around the Germany-based IFA trade show. However, Samsung is ditching that tradition to compete better against the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that are expected to launch in mid-September.
Previous reports claimed that Samsung would announce the two new handsets on August 12th, with sales set to begin nine days later in some markets. This move would give Samsung at least a month to convince buyers to purchase a new Galaxy S or Galaxy Note device rather than wait for the new iPhone 6s family to come along.
Business Korea goes on to say that the Galaxy S6 is not selling well compared to Apple’s iPhone 6.
The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, Exynos 7422 processor, 4GB of RAM, 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and S-Pen support.
