Rumor: Samsung to Unveil Galaxy S6 Next Month
Your brand-new Samsung Galaxy S5 could soon become old news.
According to a report from South Korean publication Chosun Biz, analysts in Samsung’s home country believe the company could announce the successor to its 8-month-old Galaxy S5 during next year’s Consumer Electronics Show, being held Jan. 6 through 9.

If this latest intel is true, we’d have an easier time believing that the S6 image “leak” from last week (seen above) is legitimate. The device pictured by Toptienmobiel resembles the new Alpha line of smartphones Samsung released this September, a metal-bound variant of the Galaxy S series. Monday’s report on the purported S6 also claims the device will bear a “half-metal unibody.”
New indications are that Samsung could also release a curved-screen “Edge” version of its next Galaxy S alongside the normal model. The phone-maker’s Galaxy Note Edge phablet features an extended touchscreen that wraps down one side of the phone.

Like the iPhone, which Apple has been releasing annually each September, Samsung typically drops a new version of its flagship smartphone every 11 to 12 months, with its last four yearly releases falling in April or May. But poor sales of its Galaxy S5 smartphone, according to Chosun Biz, may be spurring Samsung into an earlier announcement for what’s believed will be called the Galaxy S6.
“Poor” sales or not, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is currently ranked as the second-best selling smartphone in the world. Which means there are going to be many, many smartphone owners who will, probably sooner than they imagined, have “last year’s phone” if Samsung does announce its next Galaxy flagship in a few weeks.
Maybe this new phone should be named the Galaxy S Sick-to-My-Stomach-Because-I-JUST-UPGRADED.
