Do you have a Ring camera? You may be owed money. Here's how to check

More than $5.6 million will be refunded to consumers of the doorbell camera and home security provider, Ring, by the Federal Trade Commission.

This comes as a part of a settlement with Ring over charges that the company failed to protect private footage from its cameras. The FTC accused the Amazon-owned company of allowing employees and contractors to gain access to consumer's video footage.

Ring was also accused of allowing access to hackers, through a lack of security protections, to access consumers' accounts.

The settlement required the company to delete content, create stronger security protections and pay a fine which the FTC is now using to refund eligible customers.

Customers who are eligible include those who used specific types of Ring devices during this timeframe. The FTC will be sending payments through PayPal to customers who were impacted. Eligible customers will need to request a refund on the FTC’s website.
