On Saturday, a rapper named Dappy got a #, or Twitter hashtag, tattooed on his face, underneath his right eye. Why, you ask? Well, Dappy tweeted that the idea was “2 make sure IT [his face] stays trending 4 ever.”

[Note to Dappy: Better hope that hashtags remain trending, too!]

Spotted by PolicyMic, the artist has sent out a couple of Twitter pics of his new tattoo to make sure the world knows exactly how serious he is about the ubiquitous social media symbol. According to our brief scan into the matter, Dappy’s new art seems like a possible first for celeb social media face tattoos.

But he may not be the only one for long. It seems Dappy has already inspired other artists to follow suit:

Dappy’s hashtag face tattoo maybe bring new meaning to the term Hashtag Rap, which is the style of removing ‘like’ or ‘as’ out of a metaphor in lyrics, per Urban Dictionary. The site points out that rapper/Vogue cover model Kanye West coined the phrase.

Whether that definition of hashtag factors into why Dappy chose to brand a “#” on his face, we’re not sure. But we don’t really hate it, anyhow. It’s definitely cuter than a teardrop.
