Pogue Basic Tip: How to unfollow Facebook Friends

OK, now, the purpose of this Pogue’s Basics tip series is to shine light on little
techniques that you might think everyone knows—but over and over again, I’ve
discovered that lots of people don’t.

So if you use Facebook, here’s a good one:

You can unfollow people. It’s OK! You won’t hurt their feelings, because they’ll
never know! Their political rants or kitten photos will no longer appear in your
Facebook stream, but you’ll still be friends. Best of all worlds!

Here’s how you do it:

On the computer:

  • Click the drop down menu to the right of the person’s name.

  • Click “unfollow” the person’s name which will appear on the top line and you will also see a second line underneath that will say “Stop seeing posts but stay friends.”

On the phone:

  • Click the drop down menu to the right of the person’s name.

  • Click “unfollow” the person’s name which will appear on the top line and you will also see a second line underneath that will say “Stop seeing posts but stay friends.”

It actually feels good!
