From Popular Mechanics

Fact: There is evidence to suggest an undiscovered planet far out in the solar system, waiting to be discovered. Which is pretty freakin' cool.

Not a fact: The world is about to end and this theoretical world called "Nibiru" has something to do with it.

The Planet X apocalypse conspiracy theory is back in the news. Numerologist David Meade, he of several failed attempts to predict the endtimes, has a new interpretation of the Book of Revelation that pins down the rapture to April 23, suggesting that this year's Earth Day will be quickly followed by End of the Earth Day when Planet X crashes into our world.

We'd ignore the paranoid doomsaying of prophet with a proven track record of failure. But the rapture makes for a good headline, and many large news outlets take the bait and report the claim straight up.

So, once again: The world is not ending this month (at least not for this reason). Sorry, you've still go to do your taxes and go to work. There is no rogue Planet X on a course to alter the fate of humanity. There's just our marvelous, amazing solar system full of planets with bizarre storms and moons that just might have the right stuff to host extraterrestrial life.

If you want the real story on the hypothetical Planet X, read NASA's take on the science. Go ahead and dig into it. You've got plenty of time.
