NYC installs first Citi Bike charging stations in Brooklyn, Manhattan

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The city’s Department of Transportation and Lyft unveiled two of the first Citi Bike charging stations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, officials said on Monday.

The grid-connected charging stations are part of a pilot program announced last year, according to DOT officials. The stations will allow Citi Bike batteries to be charged while parked in the stations instead of being manually swapped out.

Officials hope the charging station will improve charged e-bike availability and “operational efficiency.”

One of the charging stations is located at the intersection of 35th Street and 9th Avenue in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. The other one is at the intersection of Meserole Avenue and Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

“Citi Bike is an essential part of New York City’s transportation landscape, and these new electrified stations may help to keep e-bikes charged, in-service, and ready to use,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “We look forward to working with Lyft to support growing ridership across the five boroughs.”
