Nikon’s Camera for Dogs Snaps a Photo When Your Dog Gets Excited
Dogs are terrible photographers. Not only do they have a poor sense of composition, they drool all over the camera, too.
But a lack of artistic abilities, not to mention opposable thumbs, isn’t stopping camera maker Nikon from producing a special camera mount that lets your pooch express herself through the art of photography.
Yes, now you can finally see the world through your pup’s eyes, one dog butt at a time.
Nikon’s Heartography is a camera mount that straps to your dog’s chest and analyzes its heartbeat. Whenever Fido sees something that piques his interest enough to get his heart pounding, the Heartography mount automatically triggers the mounted camera’s shutter, snapping a picture.
As strange as it sounds to want to see what your dog sees, the Heartography mount isn’t the only canine camera mount around.
GoPro already sells the GoPro Fetch, a $60 mount that you strap to your dog’s chest for “bone-chewing, digging and front-paw action” and the back for “over-the-head shots of running, jumping, fetch and more.” Yes, those are actual quotes from GoPro’s website.
There’s also the Orvis Action Camera Dog Harness that works with both GoPros and Sony cameras.
Unlike those mounts, though, the Nikon mount uses a full-size Nikon Coolpix camera, which will be heavy for smaller dogs.
Still, it doesn’t look like the Heartography mount is coming to market. Instead, it looks more like a proof-of-concept that Nikon simply wanted to show off. And that’s probably a good thing.
