New Lotus Motorcycles Look Like They’re Straight Out of ‘Tron’ — and Pretty Much Are

Love the light cycles from the 2010 movie Tron: Legacy? Well, tell your loved ones to start saving up, because a real-life motorcycle from the designer of those bad boys is going on sale soon.

The luxury and racing car company Lotus is ramping up to release its first-ever motorcycle, dubbed the C-01. To do so, it enlisted Daniel Simon, the designer behind some of the more iconic sci-fi vehicles in recent memory, to make it. Notably, Simon is responsible for the glowing blue light cycles in Tron: Legacy — arguably the most memorable thing about the sequel that wasn’t Jeff Bridges.

The C-01 doesn’t glow blue, shoot light trails or come with its own Daft Punk soundtrack. But there are certain aesthetic similarities between the vehicle and its silver-screen counterpart. And, heck, even forgetting the light cycles for a moment, this is one beautiful bike.

After all, this isn’t the German designer’s first try at real-world transportation. Simon has designed cars for Lamborghini and played a role in the Volkswagen-led reboot of the Bugatti luxury line. The C-01 appears to be a happy marriage of looks and power.

The motorcycle’s body is a combination of carbon fiber, titanium and steel. Inside, you’ll find a two-cylinder, four-stroke, 200-horsepower engine. All of that weighs just under 400 pounds.

The C-01 will be available in a number of different styles, with the option to customize the look yourself (glowing blue circles, anyone?).

Now the bad news: Lotus is making only 100 of these beauties. Also, the company’s not discussing the price, which probably isn’t a very good sign for the non-super-rich among us.
