Online streaming firm Netflix has reached an agreement with The Weinstein Company to make the new Crouching Tiger: Hidden Dragon available online as it debuts at IMAX cinemas.

Michelle Yeoh returns for the sequel, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, which, like its forebear, is based upon Wang Dulu’s five Crane-Iron novels, specifically the last book, Iron Knight, Silver Vase.

Otherwise, Donnie Yen of Ip Man is the new leading man, with Yuen Woo-ping directing (True Legend, choreography on Kill Bill 2) and the script supplied by John Fusco (Young Guns II, The Forbidden Kingdom, Hidalgo).

Entirely absent from Deadline’s report is word of a general cinematic release, with The Green Legend cutting out traditional distribution entirely for its premiere screenings.

Set for an Aug. 28 release in 2015, the film is the result of an ongoing relationship between The Weinstein Company and Netflix, one that has already seen Netflix agree to a deal for the first season of Marco Polo, starting Dec. 12, 2014, and whose cast contains numerous Chinese or Chinese-heritage actors.
