Montgomery County offering people free Chromebooks

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County said it was offering free Chromebooks to people who do not have access to a computer.

Montgomery County leaders said there still were about 25,000 Chromebooks up for grabs as of May 21.

To get a free Chromebook you must:

  • Be a county resident of at least 7 years old

  • Have an email address and Montgomery County library card number to make an appointment

  • Bring a photo ID and proof of your address

  • Have an appointment in their own name and must appear in person to receive the computer – including all children

A limit of one Chromebook will be given to per person. Those who received one from the county during a previous distribution cycle will not be eligible to receive another.

People who live in the county do not have to be a U.S. citizen to receive a free Chromebook.
