MLRS-equipped naval drones hit coastal and sea targets

The Sea Baby marine drone, equipped with the Grad Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), is being used to hit coastal targets and enemies at sea, Ukraine's SBU Security Service chief Vasyl Malyuk said on the national television on May 25.

"There are many other types of weapons that the drone carries as a multipurpose platform, but we will not discuss them to avoid aiding our enemies," he said, noting that Russian warships currently hiding in the port of Novorossiysk are not safe from the SBU's drones. He cited an Aug. 4 attack on a large landing ship, the Olenegorskiy Gornyak.

In total, 11 Russian ships and the Crimean Bridge have been targeted by SBU drones.

This follows an earlier report of the May 21 attack on Russian positions on the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit by modified Sea Baby drones.

"Today, we can confirm that the drones are equipped with a rocket launcher system, and this technological solution is already showing powerful results," the SBU source told NV.

"Therefore, new surprises are waiting for the enemy."

Modernization of Sea Baby drones

The Sea Baby marine drone is capable not only of carrying explosives but also of firing, Malyuk said last January.

Ukraine had modernized its marine drones and made them "more lethal," the SBU reported in March.

Now, the Sea Baby can deliver an explosive charge weighing 850 kg, according to SBU General Ivan Lukashevich.

At the beginning of the year, Ukraine launched an initiative to raise funds for dozens of additional Sea Babies for the SBU.

Ukrainians collected 297.5 million hryvnias ($7.474 million) for 35 Sea Baby drones in just two days, Ukraine’s Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said.
