For Metal Gear Solid fans playing on the Steam Deck, there’s word that the Master Collection Volume 1 is now fully compatible with the device. This is thanks to a new patch that will begin rolling out today.

Bonus content also now compatible

According to the Japanese Metal Gear Solid X account, version 1.4.1 will bring a few changes to some of the games. This will most notably have an effect on MGS2, MGS3, and bonus content.

The post goes on to say that the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and 1998’s MGS1 were “already playable on Steam Deck.” However, the new update suggests that the full collection will now be suitable for Valve‘s handheld PC.

At the time of writing, the Master Collection is showing as being “playable” on the Deck. Once the patch starts rolling out, this could change, but it’s possible that it might not get bumped up to “verified.”

For those who aren’t sure, a game that runs on the Steam Deck but may be missing certain features or perhaps has some glitches is considered playable. Conversely, anything that has been deemed to run perfectly without any issues is classed as verified.

Master Collection Volume 1 of Metal Gear Solid was released in October 2023. It contains the first two installments in the series from way back in the day, as well as the three games from the Solid portion of the series.

At the time of writing, the game has an overall Steam review score of “mixed,” though recent scores show it as “mostly positive.” It’s possible the new update could push for more positive feedback if additional bugs have been ironed out.
