Meta says it’s working to combat fake, explicit images of people

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Artificial intelligence is evolving in excellent and concerning ways daily.

In recent months, people have been using technology to create fake and sometimes explicit images or videos of people without their consent. These images have sometimes made their way to social media sites.

Meta, the company that runs Facebook and Instagram, is now evaluating how it should handle explicit deepfake content on its platforms.

The company says an independent Oversight Board will review how the company addressed two AI-generated images of two women.

Queen City News reached out to Meta for more information. The company said no one should ever experience online abuse like it. Meta also noted that this type of content violates their policies (Community StandardsSexual SolicitationAdult Nudity and Sexual Activity).

Meta said the Oversight Board selected the case on their own accord.
