The new MacBook Pro comes with a secret graphics feature
The new MacBook Pro is incredible. Or awful. Or something in between. It depends on who you ask, really. The fact remains that Apple’s 2016 laptop is a marvel of design that packs quite a punch under the hood. For many professionals, the Touch Bar versions of the MacBook Pro will get the job done and then some. But the laptop does have limitations when it comes to memory and graphics, so not everyone will be pleased by some of Apple’s choices for the laptop. That said, the device does come with a secret feature that can turn it into the powerful gaming setup you’ve always wanted.

As it stands, the MacBook’s graphics card is far from being the best one available. And it’s not like previous MacBook Pro versions that were ready to deliver an amazing gaming experience. But the 2016 MacBook Pro’s graphics card can be upgraded, and it’s easier than you think. But it’s also expensive. And it’s all thanks to that Thunderbolt 3 port, which supports external graphics.
As early adopters have already discovered, the MacBook Pro (late 2016) can hook up to an external GPU dock, like the Razer Core that we saw debut earlier this year, and deliver amazing graphics for games and other purposes.
There are plenty of caveats, The Next Web reports. First of all, you won’t get a native Mac gaming experience — you have to run Windows to take advantage of the graphics card upgrade. Second, you need to buy a Razer Core. Third, you need to also buy one of those expensive high-end graphics cards, like the GTX 1080.
If that’s not a problem, then you’re probably ready to turn your new MacBook Pro into a rather powerful gaming station. Sure, it’s not a portable gaming setup, but it’s still better than nothing. In fact, it’s something some of us have been dreaming about.
