Look into Champaign’s past with new interactive map

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Champaign has launched a new tool that can give people a look into the past.

It’s an interactive map that can compare any two maps of the city. Maps include zoning and color maps along with images taken by satellites, and their dates range from the 1880s to 2024.

An interactive slider allows for a quick transition between two maps, giving people a chance to easily see changes in the city’s landscape between any two points in time.

Other maps are also available on the City of Champaign’s website, including ones for Adopt a Drain, Adopt a Highway, historic landmarks, city council districts and more. The new interactive map is listed as the “Champaign Historic Map.”
