How Lip Chip LLC is revolutionizing horse’s health, record storage and more

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Lip Chip LLC is creating a new way for horse owners to store and keep their animal’s records, providing health updates and more.

“Pretty much we implant a microchip,” said Lip Chip Director of Technology Logan Taylor. “It’s about the size of a grain of rice, we roll that horse’s lip up and on race horses where they used to tattoo, that’s where the microchip goes.”

Once the microchip is placed, Lip Chip scans it and opens up a portal in their app which creates a report for that specific horse.

“It’s a lot like a car fax in a car,” said Chief Executive Officer Brad Bolen.

“Anything from owner information, pictures, vet records, needed paperwork and more can be stored within their portal,” Taylor explained.

Not only will paperwork be stored within the portal, horse owners can find out more about their animal’s health with a simple email.

“So when we implant microchips, we implant thermal microchips,” said Taylor.

With this, owners are able to take a ‘health check’ on their horse by taking their temperature. When the temperature either drops or rises below the baseline, owners will receive an email to inform them about their horse’s health.

Competitors that have companies transport their horses, they can receive updated emails on their animal’s location and temperature once the chip has been scanned. The chip also allows for an easier check-in at venues since paperwork can be stored in the animals portal.

“Instead of having to get your papers out and they’re lost or whatever, scan their lips and in one minute you’re in,” Bolen said when talking about competitors arriving at new venues for races and rodeos.
