LeEco’s U.S. Content Launch Lineup Includes Machinima, Mitú, Magnolia Pictures

Less than two weeks before its official launch in the US, Chinese consumer electronics upstart LeEco has started to lift the curtain on some of its content lineup. LeEco’s US content launch partners include Mitú, Machinima and Magnolia Pictures, the company announced in a series of tweets.

Other content launch partners include CONtv and Ownzones, according to those tweets. LeEco has invited journalists to a launch event in San Francisco next week. The company is expected to unveil mobile phones, smart TVs, a VR headset and an internet-connected bike.

LeEco started out as a video streaming service in China, and has since branched out to sell consumer electronics products. The company sells its products for a lot less than competitors like Apple and Samsung, and aims to make up for the difference with a series of services, including video on demand and live video streaming.

It’s still unclear how LeEco’s US content strategy is exactly going to look like, but the now-announced content partners suggest that the company may at first rely on aggregating and licensing content that is also readily available elsewhere.

The company could potentially complement this lineup with its own content. LeEco has been financing and producing movie productions through is LeVision subsidiary, whose tent pole projects include the upcoming Matt Damon pic “The Great Wall.”
