Kanye West Is Making a Video Game About His Mom

Kim Kardashian is no longer the only video game developer in the (large, many bedroomed) house.

During a livestreamed performance at Madison Square Garden Thursday to promote his new album and fashion line, husband/father/musician/mogul/Bill Cosby fanboy Kanye West debuted a trailer for a video game called Only One: The Game.

West followed up the brief trailer by first lambasting the crowd for not applauding loudly enough, but then he settled in and vaguely explained what the hell is going on.

“The concept is my mom traveling through the gates of heaven,” West said. He also pointed out that getting this game made was not easy.

“No, you don’t understand, man,” he continued. “I go out and meet with everybody in San Fran, and they’ll diss the f*** out of me. And I’ll be like, ‘I wanna make a game,’ and they’ll be like, ‘F*** YOU.’ That was hard to do, bro!”

And then he played the trailer again, and this time, the crowd got it, because they totally organically and without any prompting applauded a lot louder than the first time.

So how does one play Only One: The Game? An excellent question. No release date, platform, developer, or publisher was announced. I’ve watched it six times and while the art is pretty cool, I’m not sure you do anything other than ride Pegasus, sprout wings, and fly to heaven. Which is, admittedly, about par for the course for video gaming in 2016.

My bet is that it’s an endless runner, except you’re running to heaven, and when you get there, you are greeted by Kanye’s mother, who hands you a flash drive containing the song “Only One” by Kanye West.

Ben Silverman would let Kanye West finish, but Wu Tang had one of the best rapper-related video games of all time. He’s on Twitter at @ben_silverman.
