Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Coming Next YearJeep
  • Jeep's CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed that a plug-in hybrid Gladiator 4xe is arriving next year.

  • The Gladiator 4xe should use the same powertrain as the Wrangler 4xe, which pairs a turbo inline-four with an electric motor for 375 horsepower.

  • More details on the Gladiator 4xe should come later this year.

Hybrids once held a reputation as odd-looking experiments driven only by the most rabid eco-warriors, but the past decade has seen the gas-electric powertrains proliferate across the automotive landscape. Case in point is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, which retains its iconic, boxy looks despite its modern running gear and has become the most popular plug-in hybrid in the U.S. Now Jeep has announced that starting next year, the automaker will also offer a Gladiator 4xe model.

The imminent arrival of the plug-in hybrid pickup was announced by Jeep's CEO Antonio Filosa via LinkedIn, but no other details were provided. Jeep just refreshed the Gladiator for the 2024 model year with a slightly tweaked grille and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, so we don't expect the 4xe to bring any major visual changes, aside from the blue accents and badges already seen on the plug-in Wrangler.

We also don't expect any differences between the plug-in powertrain in the upcoming Gladiator 4xe and the existing Wrangler 4xe, given that the Gladiator is basically a pickup truck version of the Wrangler. The Wrangler 4xe packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This is combined with a 34-hp electric motor for a combined output of 375 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque. A 17.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides over 21 miles of range. Full details for the Gladiator 4xe should arrive later this year.
