Another year, another iPhone, and another 525,600 rumors about what the new iPhone will look like. Every year, the internet loses its collective mind with the daily influx of Apple related news, and the latest from the rumor mill claims the company might be getting rid of the home button on the iPhone 8. Now, if you know Apple, you know a physical home button has been a pretty standard (or pretty i-Conic, get it?) feature on all its i-Products — the iPad, the iPod, and most popularly, the iPhone.

But according to Digitimes, Apple will replace the physical home button on the iPhone 8 with an optical fingerprint sensor.

The new optical home button will keep its original position but will now be embedded under the iPhone’s fancy new OLED edge to edge display. Many iPhone users were initially worried that the company would be moving the home button to the back of the device but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Based on the renders we’ve seen, the company looks to be shooting for a button-less, and eventually port-less design.

While the “new” design looks amazing, with new tech comes new issues and we can’t help but wonder what will happen if the screen is damaged or otherwise refuses to work. A physical home button has always been a sort of back up plan, even with damages on the screen the button would still work. But what happens when that’s no longer an option?

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see. We’re sure Apple has a plan!
