Hublot’s New Online Experience Will Take You Inside a Flyback Chronograph

Hublot wants to show you what makes its chronographs tick.

The Swiss watchmaker has launched a new online experience dedicated to its legendary Unico movement. Accessible via desktop or any mobile device, the simply named Unico Experience allows horophiles to engage directly with a watchmaker to learn more about caliber HUB1280.

Launched in 2010, the Unico was Hublot’s first in-house movement. Combining cutting-edge technology and traditional horological techniques, the self-winding chronograph comprises 354 components, beats at 28’800 vibrations per hour, and offers a power reserve of 72 hours. The Unico powers a variety of models in the Hublot lineup, from the Big Bang to the King Power. Pieces equipped with the chronograph will be explored in detail in the Unico Experience.

Guests can design a bespoke timepiece featuring the Unico movement.

The experience will be led by a virtual watchmaker, though select sessions will be voiced by a real watchmaker connecting live from Hublot’s manufacture in Nyon, Switzerland. The watchmaker will delve into the art of manufacturing timepieces and explain the expertise required to craft Hublot’s timepieces. In addition, the Unico will be intricately rendered in 3-D to demonstrate how the chronograph with flyback function operates once fully assembled.

“This immersive journey not only showcases our iconic Unico in-house chronograph movement but also offers our esteemed collectors an unprecedented opportunity to engage with our watchmakers in a digital realm,” Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe said in a statement.

At the end of the experience, guests can use a special configurator to design a bespoke timepiece featuring the Unico chronograph movement. You can choose everything from the material and case size to the dial color and strap to create a total one-off. You can even “engrave” the watch with a name, initial, or date.

“The special configurator marks an exciting milestone, allowing our guests to tailor their own unique Big Bang,” Guadalupe adds. “This exclusive event underscores our ongoing commitment to innovation and personalized luxury experiences for our valued clients.”

Hublot isn’t the only watchmaker educating collectors, of course. Jaeger-LeCoultre offers Discovery Workshops at its Atelier d’Antoine in Switzerland and other international flagships, while Bremont runs a British Watchmaking Masterclass in the U.K. Hublot’s Unico Experience seems unique in that it is entirely online and focused on one movement.

This experience will be available exclusively from May 14 to 18, with only 20 people able to join each session. You need to have a Hublot account to access it, too.
