How Weird Can a Viral Video Be? Ask ‘Too Many Cooks’
Too many cooks, you might have heard, spoil the broth.
On YouTube, however, a newly viral video called “Too Many Cooks” has spoiled nothing, except maybe your idyllic memories of the wholesome prime-time television of your childhood.
The 1980s lampoon — which, you will soon learn, is called “Too Many Cooks” — is perhaps the most determinedly strange viral video in some time. Listed innocuously as “Infomercial” in the TV Guide, “Too Many Cooks” has aired at 4 a.m. on Adult Swim every night this week, according to creator Casper Kelly. (Kelly is a veteran of Adult Swim, having worked on weirdo shows like Squidbillies and Stroker & Hoop.)
It’s unlikely that many people have seen “Too Many Cooks” live. Over on YouTube, however, more than 1 million people have, thanks to a surge from the Reddit front page.
I’m going to embed the video below, and I won’t ruin the joke. But be warned that it is not safe to watch at work and includes some fairly disturbing scenes. I would not view it alone with the lights out before bedtime.
Or maybe I would! I won’t spoil this broth!
