Send Locations from Your Desktop to Your Phone on Google Maps

I often find myself in transit, furiously typing an address into my Google Maps app, hoping the directions to my destination will load in time before my Subway car goes underground.

Sure, maybe I should’ve saved a map of my route to use while offline, but what’s the point of having a travel app if you can’t use it spontaneously on the go?

That’s where Google’s “Favorite Places” feature comes in handy. It allows you to save your destination on your desktop prior to leaving, and, without any extra effort, it will automatically appear on your phone.

This is how it works:

1. Ensure that your mobile Google Maps app is up-to-date, and that you’re using the latest version of Google’s online maps tool.

2. Confirm that you’re signed into Google Maps online and on your mobile device.

3. Search for your destination in Google Maps on your web browser. A star to the right of the location’s name will pop up, along with some basic info about the location.

4. Click the star. It will turn yellow and that location will automatically be added to your “Favorite Places” on all your mobile devices.

5. Now, go to you mobile app. and tap the search bar at the top of the screen. All of your stored locations will pop up below.

6. Select the destination, and the route will automatically pop up on the screen.

Remember, you’ll still need to have some sort of data connection to load directions on your phone, but saving the location ahead of time should save you from the hassle of finding the address on the go.
