There comes a time in your life when you must hand your beloved smartphone over to the slimy fingers of a young child who has asked to play Zombie Farm.

And while you may not have any control over whether your phone is sneezed on, buried in sand or dropped, you can at the very least make sure the little beast isn’t running up your Candy Crush tab or texting gibberish to your crush.

Here’s how you lock the screen of your iPhone so it functions in one app and one app only.

1. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility.

2. Scroll down to the section labeled Learning and tap Guided Access.

3. Switch on Guided Access.

4. Select Set Passcode. This is the code that will be required when the little one using your phone attempts to go outside the confines of the app you’ve brought up. Maybe make it the same as your Lock screen code so you don’t forget it.

5. Switch on Accessibility Shortcut. This way, you can turn on this helpful child lock by simply clicking the Home button on your iPhone three times.

6. After you’ve fixed those settings, go to the app that the child has requested to play. Click the Home button three times. Two bars at the top of your phone should come up.

7. You can start by circling any areas on the screen you want to disable. After you draw a circle, it will become a gray transparent blob thing that you can stretch and move around the screen. Anything that’s moved over will automatically be disabled.

8. After you have sufficiently adjusted the blobs, go to Options, where you can turn off features like the volume, sleep/wake button, motion and touch.

9. To exit out of the screen, simply click the Home button thrice more and enter your passcode. Hopefully the rest of your iPhone survived that young one’s sticky grip.
