Being published by Sony, the third-person smash hit Helldivers 2 initially wanted players to link the game up to their PlayStation Network accounts. However, while this was not the case when the game launched on PC, the publisher will soon be requiring it.

Sony acknowledges it as an “inconvenience”

According to a recent post on the official Steam page, from May 6, Helldivers 2 players will need to link a PSN account to their Steam profile. While this won’t be mandatory until June 4, users will start to see a notification to link up to the PlayStation Network from May 30.

The post goes on to say, “We understand that while this may be an inconvenience to some of you, this step will help us to continue to build a community that you are all proud to be a part of.:

According to Sony, the reason for linking the two accounts is for the purposes of “protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games.”

When Helldivers 2 first launched at the start of February, Sony allowed for a “grace period” for this linking requirement, due to “technical issues” with the game. However, that time is now coming to an end.

There are instructions on the PlayStation website for those who need to create a PSN account if they want to continue playing Helldivers 2.

The message was also relayed on X. Overall, it shouldn’t affect PS5 users. However, given some of the reactions to the news, a lot of fans don’t seem keen on creating a Sony-specific account for something many are exclusively playing on PC.
