Gulfstream’s New G700 Jet Just Received European Certification

Gulfstream’s new G700 is officially rolling out across the pond.

The all-new business jet has received European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification, clearing the way for deliveries to the Old Continent.

“The Gulfstream team is proud to add EASA to our growing G700 certification accomplishments,” Gulfstream president Mark Burns said in a statement. “This EASA certification unlocks G700 deliveries for many more of our international customers, and we are excited to see our next-generation fleet grow around the world.”

The aircraft earned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification on March 29, following what Burns said was “the most rigorous certification program in company history.” The process for certifying new aircraft in the U.S. has become more stringent following two fatal crashes of Boeing 737 Max planes in October 2018 and March 2019, respectively.

Before FAA certification, Gulfstream announced upgrades to the G700’s range, speed, and cabin altitude. The jet’s already impressive range increased to 7,750 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 or 6,650 nautical miles at Mach 0.90, gaining 250 nautical miles at both speeds over original projections. The G700’s maximum operating speed also increased from Mach 0.925 (710 mph) to Mach 0.935 (717 mph), cementing it as the fastest aircraft in the Gulfstream fleet. (The aircraft set more than 50 speed records before entering service, in fact.) The cabin altitude, which Gulfstream says is already the lowest in business aviation, was reduced to 2,840 feet while flying at 41,000 feet to provide even more comfort in the skies.

With the G700’s FAA certification, Gulfstream announced two additional improvements. The takeoff distance and landing distance were both shorter than originally expected—5,995 feet and 3,150 feet, respectively—meaning that fliers will have more operational flexibility and airport availability.

To top it off, the G700 features the most spacious cabin in business aviation, according to Gulfstream. The interior can be configured with up to five living areas, a new “ultra galley,” and a grand suite with a shower. Owners can tailor everything from the floor plan and palette to the upholstery and metal trim. (Robb Report visited Gulfstream’s Beverly Hills office to create our own bespoke jet.) In addition, fliers will enjoy whisper-quiet noise levels and 100 percent fresh, never recirculated air.

Gulfstream delivered the first two examples of the new flagship to U.S. customers in April, with more deliveries expected in the coming weeks.
