Gift Ideas: 10 Great Gadgets for Pet Lovers

Your pets. They’re your best friends and constant companions; they ask for little besides food and affection, and they give so much. They’re also secret nerds. Don’t they deserve a little tech under the tree this year?

If your favorite family members have four legs — or you have animal-obsessed friends — you’re in luck. High-tech gadgets for pet lovers abound.

The bad news: Several promising ones won’t be available until after the holidays. Pawscout, a $30 Bluetooth-powered pet locator that uses a social network of nearby animal lovers to track down lost cats and canines, can be preordered today for delivery in February. Then there’s CleverPet, a Wi-Fi-connected game console that claims to both train and entertain your pooch. That should be available in spring 2015. FitBark, a soup-to-nuts health tracker for your hound, can be preordered now and will ship sometime next year. AquaSprouts, which promises to make your fish tank smell less fishy by turning it into a small “aquaponic” garden, will be available in March.

The good news: Here are 10 cool pet gizmos you can buy today.
