Germophobes Take Note: Your iPhone Case Has Arrived

I recently bought a box of disinfectant wet wipes to wipe down my phone after subway rides. Maybe you’ve not gone that far, but let’s be honest: Our mobile devices are germ magnets.

NueVue is a product for people like me. It’s an iPhone sleeve that claims to eliminate 99.9 percent of bacteria from a phone’s surface using an antimicrobial technology called BioCote.

The BioCote technology was created by a team of microbiologists and chemists at a company of the same name. It’s currently available in hundreds of products from companies including Motorola and vacuum-maker Dyson.

Putting the NueVue to work is just as simple as sliding your phone into the sleeve. What’s most surprising here is that the case apparently continues to keep working as your phone sits in it.

Oh, and the microfibers inside also help remove fingerprints from the surface, so another added bonus for the obsessive-compulsive.

It’s tough to say, of course, how effective the sleeve actually is in removing bacteria. The cases are brand new, and they’re the only thing NueVue actually makes at this point. But I’ve got one in my backpack right now, and I’ll let you know if I get sick.

Such protection doesn’t come cheap. The company’s iPhone cases run $45 to $57 on its site, depending on the style you prefer — and if you’re keen on keeping your credit card with your phone. iPad cases, meanwhile, are between $57 and $64.
