Mad Max has all the makings of a thrilling video game, but for the series’ director George Miller there’s just one man for the job.

That man is Hideo Kojima, the legendary video game designer responsible for Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding. “I'm one of those people where I'd rather not do something unless you're going to do it at the highest level," Miller told GamingBible. "But I've just been speaking to [Hideo] Kojima here who came all the way from Japan. If he would take it on . . . but he's got so much fantastic stuff on his own head, so I would never ask him. But if someone like that would take it on, because I couldn't do it."

Kojima attended the recent premier of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, so the two auteurs have clearly been talking. According to Miller, however, they’ve yet to broach the topic of a Mad Max video game.

Kojima currently has his hands full with his own game, physiological adventure OD. It stars Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and Udo Kier, and is set to release in 2026z

If a Kojima-made Mad Max happened, it would be the second official Mad Max video game. Miller shared his feelings on that 2015 title, which launched soon after Mad Max: Fury Road. “It wasn't as good as we wanted it to,” he admitted. “It wasn't in our hands."

There may be another reason for the game’s underwhelming reception. Developed by Avalanche, it launched the very same day as Kojima's smash hit, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

So if Miller did manage to entice Kojima to make a Mad Max game, it’s safe to say it’s a long way off.
