The Galaxy S8 might lose the fight against the iPhone before it even launches
The Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 8 are probably the most anticipated handsets of the year. The Galaxy S8 is set to arrive in mid-April, according to various reports, while the iPhone 8 will surely drop in September. Meanwhile, the web is swirling with Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 rumors, and the most recent Galaxy S8 report indicates that Samsung’s 2017 flagship might have a rather high entry price.

Apple kept the same entry price for the iPhone over the years, even if it continued to upgrade the handset and bump up the storage. Samsung’s Galaxy S kept matching the iPhone’s price.
But things may change this year, at least for Samsung. A source familiar with the company’s inner workings said on Twitter that the Galaxy S8 is “ready and will be present at MWC,” but Samsung will not show it to the public.
Furthermore, Twitter user @Ricciolo1 said that a “little bird” told him the phone might be unveiled on March 29th, and should then launch in week 17 — that’s April 24th to April 30th.
He also said that prices will start at $849. That’s quite a high entry price for the smartphone, especially if the iPhone 8 will have the same pricing structure as the iPhone 7.
For $849, you can buy a 256GB iPhone 7. Add $20, and you end up with a 128GB iPhone 7 Plus.
Even if the $849 Galaxy S8 matches the storage of the iPhone 7, it’ll still be expensive.
On the other hand, there’s also one more iPhone 8 rumor to consider. Apple will have three new iPhones in store this year, reports claim, including the iPhone 8 and two iPhone 7s versions. In such a case, it’ll be interesting to see what the entry price for the iPhone 8 will be.
Samsung is yet to announce its Galaxy S8 Unpacked event, which means there’s plenty of time for more rumors and speculations.
