If summer humidity has been activating sweat glands in the immediate vicinity, then perhaps Panasonic's latest invention will be of interest: a shoe deodorizer that gets rid of smelly orders overnight.

The MS-DS100, as its called, attacks isovaleric acid, a natural cause of foot odor created by one of the many millions of microbes living on the human body: Staphylococcus epidermidis. A mostly innocuous pathogen which colonizes human skin for its survival, S. epidermidis causes sweat odor when it interacts with an amino acid known as leucine, which is released when sweat forms on the foot.

The MS-DS100 is placed inside a shoe to counteract this natural occurrence and uses what ions Panasonic refers to as "nanoe X," nano-sized, electrostatic, atomized water particles which release 4.8 trillion hydroxyl (OH) radicals per second which react with the hydrogen in odor-causing particles and neutralize them.

To use it, just plug in the MS-DS100 and shove it into your shoes. The ions then begin to spread into shoes at two possible modes, going five and seven hours respectively. The seven hour mode is "to remove stubborn odors," Panasonic says in a press release.

The device will be for sale in Japan on September 20th, and while no price has been given it doesn't look cheap. And whatever the price, there's bound to be a cheaper way to get the same job done.
