Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 looks to have ended and we are currently in a period of Fortnite downtime as the Battle Royale behemoth prepares for its next season.

It's worth noting that last season's timings shifted by a couple of days just before the new one was supposed to arrive, so timings here are always subject to change - even if we are now in the downtime period. The best place to keep up on specific updates closer to the launch of the new season is the Fortnite Status Twitter account. We'll be sure to keep this page up to date as well.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 will launch, today, May 24, 2024. The thing to remember about new Fortnite seasons and chapters is that there is always a period of downtime after one ends. This downtime makes the next season's exact start time a little tricky to predict as it can range from a couple of hours - as was the case last season - to multiple days, which has happened between chapters before.

What to expect from the next Fortnite season

Now we've arrived on launch day of the new season, Epic has revealed all about the new season, what we can expect, what's included, and provided a very cool launch trailer.

It was heavily rumored that we were going to see a Fallout tie-in, or something inspired by Fallout (and possibly something that gave off Mad Max vibes) and that is definitely the case now the official cat is out of the official bag.

The above trailer sets the scene and provides a lot of info, but if you're looking for an overview, we've got you covered. A huge sandstorm has swept across the Island and created a new area in the South region now being called the wasteland. It's here that the Wasteland Warriors have already laid claim to the place and started causing chaos.

There are some fierce foes in the Wasteland Warriors, with each taking up residence in a specific location: someone called The Machinist runs the Redline Rig Nitro refinery; Ringmaster Scarr is heading up a circus of car spectacle called the Nitrodrome; and a superbly-named Megalo Don presides over their base of operations, Brutal Beachhead.

The new season brings back vehicle mods, and you can add different tires, and cowcatchers and try SUVs or, if you're daring enough, hijack a War Bus from foes on the Island. If you're able to eliminate Wasteland Warriors you can also get access to their modded car which will have infinite Nitro, a Mythic weapon, and a perk-filled Medallion.

The Wrecked Battle Pass will be under full swing with the new season as well, naturally. Purchasing the Battle Pass auto-unlocks The Machinist, but you can progress and gain XP to unlock other wastelanders, the T-60 Power Armor, and more. The Wrecked Battle Pass will be available to progress in until August 16, 2024, at 2 AM ET.
