Ellen DeGeneres Makes a Samsung Selfie the Most Retweeted Thing of All Time with the Aid of Beautiful, Famous Friends

And the most incessantly advertised Oscar product goes to … Samsung!

You might say the company was … calling all the shots at the 86th Academy Awards this Sunday. Host Ellen DeGeneres used what appeared to be a sparkly Note 3 to take a celebrity-dense selfie that quickly became the most retweeted tweet of all time.

The spontaneous-ish photo was retweeted more than 2.5 million times, due to the fact that it both included the expensive faces of some of the night’s biggest stars and came with an urging from DeGeneres for our brave nation to charge forth and break the world record. The photo (above) included Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, one fourth of Jared Leto’s face, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o, Angelina Jolie’s stunning hand and Nyong’o’s brother, Junior. It, unfortunately, did not include Liza Minnelli (should’ve used something from Huawei).

Previously, the item that held the Most Retweeted title was a photo of Barack and Michelle Obama with the tagline “Four more years” that the POTUS sent out when he won the 2012 election.

Before that, it was a tweet by child role model Justin Bieber.

DeGeneres enthusiastically used her Samsung phone throughout the ceremony, as commercials advertising the company’s latest Galaxy S5 smartphone ran during breaks. But as 9-to-5 Mac’s Mark Gurman notes, she mysteriously had an iPhone handy for photos with Channing Tatum backstage.

I love DeGeneres and will not accuse her of any wrongdoing/breaking her sponsor’s contract by using her personal iPhone during the event. I will assume she was hacked like many stars before her.

As we wait for this fascinating riddle to unravel, I welcome your submission for the next photographic arrangement that will be the most retweeted thing of all time. Please note that images with larger fractions of Jared Leto’s face in them will be given extra consideration.
