Two Bay Area Engineers Are Drone-Delivering Four-Leaf Clovers via Instagram

Happy St. Patty’s! How are you celebrating? A green shirt? Some corned beef? A big green bow tie?

Two Bay Area guys are tipping their hat to St. Patrick the old-fashioned way: by flying a drone full of four-leaf clovers over the city of San Francisco.

Former aerospace technician/writer E.J. Slody and creative designer Alex Ricardo Palomo started the project just for fun, naming their mini aircraft the Good Luck Drone and asking for delivery suggestions via its Instagram page.

Residents can request a visit from the drone by typing a location on its flight map and posting it on Instagram with the hashtag #goodluckdrone. Palomo and Slody will then fly their baby to the spot and post a video of its journey (set to traditional Irish bagpipe music, naturally).

These are the clovers that the Good Luck Drone is packing.

Part of me actually wants this thing to drop clovers over the city (though perhaps San Francisco is dirty enough). At the very least, the clips that the drone is recording offer up a pretty aerial view of San Francisco’s rooftops:

I’m honestly surprised that these guys greeted the drone with such open arms. I’d probably have thrown my shoe at it.

Obligatory Irish cheer for the Golden Gate Bridge.

And, like a loyal Bay Area drone, it made sure to drop by AT&T Park to spread some Irish luck to the Giants.

So this is apparently how Silicon Valley celebrates St. Patrick’s Day! Better or equal to the traditional practice of vomiting into a green Chicago River? You decide.
