County's computer network 'disrupted'

Wichita County government has experienced what officials call a "disruption in our computer network."

"We have taken prompt action to secure the network, and we are working with leading independent cybersecuirty experts to assistant with our response and restoration process," County Judge Jim Johnson said in a press release.

The outage apparently began early Tuesday and continued through Thursday afternoon.

"We are currently investigating the situation and working diligently to determine the scope of the incident," Johnson said.

His email to media came through a gmail account rather than the county's normal email.

County Tax Assessor-Collector Tommy Smyth said his office's Motor Vehicle Division is operational because it is on a standalone state network.

Smyth said the property tax division as been "resourceful" as other county offices have been during the outage.
