Coming Soon to Chuck E. Cheese’s: The Oculus Rift?

Chuck E. Cheese’s, the establishment you may have puked in as a child, has come a long way from its creepy animatronic band days. It is now now offering virtual reality to children. CEC has partnered with Oculus Rift to bring the virtual reality headsets to a variety of locations. The first store to get Rift is Montfort in Dallas, then it will expand to the 15 other Dallas-area locations, San Diego, and Orlando for a six-week trial run.
Rift will be used in the CEC game “Ticket Blaster.” It’s a tube-like device where kids try to pick up as many game tickets (which they can turn into prizes) as they can in a set amount of time.
Oculus Rift, whose parent company was recently acquired by Facebook for $2 billion, has had an issue with causing nausea in some wearers, and while updated versions of the device do help to calm this, there are still going to be some pukers. Pizza, soda, cake, and 9-year-olds might not mix with nausea-inducing technology.

Roger Cardinale, president of Chuck E. Cheese’s owner CEC Entertainment, said in a statement: “Kids today have unprecedented access to game consoles and tablets. Our challenge is to deliver an experience not available at home, and there is no doubt virtual reality does just that. Oculus Rift technology is the next frontier in the gaming industry, and we’re thrilled to be able to say it’s part of the Chuck E. Cheese’s lineup.”
