C8 Corvette ZR1 Coming This SummerChevrolet
  • The high-strung ZR1 badge is returning to the Chevrolet Corvette and could be the most potent Corvette ever.

  • The eighth-generation Corvette currently features the Stingray, E-Ray, and Z06 models in its lineup.

  • The seventh-generation Corvette ZR1 pushed 755 hp from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 to the rear wheels.

Even though almost everyone knew it would happen, it was impossible to guess when.

Today, Chevrolet finally confirmed the potent ZR1 badge is making its way to the mid-engine Corvette. More importantly, Chevy says that this is happening this summer.

Chevrolet hasn’t revealed any details about the upcoming Corvette ZR1, other than the fact that it’s coming. That said, if the video above is worth anything, we can imagine that this generation’s Corvette ZR1 is going to have an aggressive aero package.

The teaser video above shows a massive rear wing and an aggressive front splitter. There’s also exhaust noise, so you can assume this is going to have some variant of an internal combustion powertrain.

The most recent example of the Corvette ZR1 showed up during the Vette’s seventh generation. In C7 guise, the ZR1 packed a supercharged 6.2-liter pushrod V8 under the hood and sent 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque through a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic to the rear wheels. It’s safe to assume that that the C8 ZR1 will best those numbers, but don’t expect a manual transmission to make it to the Corvette’s spec sheet.

Considering the previous-generation ZR1 made plenty of power, the mid-engine version is going to have to make even more power. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Chevrolet borrow the 5.5-liter V8 from the Corvette Z06 and find a way to shove more air into its combustion chambers.

It’s also not out of the question for Chevrolet to borrow the hybrid system from the E-Ray, and throw that underneath the ZR1. Of course, we’re only a few months away from knowing what exactly will make this latest Corvette ZR1 hustle.

Chevrolet hasn’t given a firm date to expect to see the latest Corvette ZR1 yet, but summer 2024 is just around the corner.
