Carthage seniors showcase STEM specialties with PLTW projects

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Biomedicine and engineering were put in the spotlight, Wednesday, in Carthage – and both were done so by high school seniors.

This all part of the Carthage Tech Center’s annual PLTW Senior Showcase.

PLTW stands for Project Lead the Way which is a four-year rigorous STEM pathway either in the area of biomedical research or engineering.

Seniors have been working on their projects the whole school year — ones that are new inventions or innovations involving existing products.

“The end goal of the project, to me, was just showing everybody what me and my partner could do — showing off the program, really, ’cause the engineering program itself is a very good program. And it just gives you skills that you’re gonna need for, really, life in general if you’re wanting to go into that field,” said Chaise Lee, Carthage HS senior.

“This experience has been — it’s been fun. There’s a lot of people coming and interacting with us, and getting to share our ideas has been good,” said Addison Carney, Carthage HS senior.

“They have worked — put in a lot of time over the past year to do these things. You know, I also think it’s good to, to see them and hear them present and defend their innovation or invention, right? You know, how well they articulate that. They all do a wonderful job of communicating that and sharing their thoughts and ideas,” said Dr. Gage Tiller, CTD Director.

Which they also did, today, in front of potential investors.
