You Can Build a Wooden Ammo Box From a Pallet

From Popular Mechanics

Vietnam War-era wood ammo boxes make great storage units, but they're tough to find for a decent price and in good condition. Metal ammo boxes are a popular DIY toolbox project, but not large enough to fit most power tools. So Dave's Woodworks built his own ammo box by repurposing a pallet, which, it turns out, is the ideal type of wood for this project.

This simple DIY starts with tearing down a pallet and cutting it to the desired length using a saw. Sand it down and stain it, or leave the wood raw for a truly weathered look. Wood glue and nails hold it together. The only hardware needed are hinges and a lock. Jute or hemp rope handles finish the look.

You can use foam inserts and cutouts to hold your tools in place, or even build wood inserts that can be used as separators to keep stuff from rolling around.
